      Tracie McGhee, High School Coordinator with Athens Technical College, spoke to members of the CTAE Department and the CTAE Advisory Committee at W-WCHS about opportunities for high school students to earn college credit while still in high school. She covered dual enrollment, ACCEL, and articulation programs.

      Mr. and Mrs. Cary Callaway of Washington announce the birth of their son, Carson Patrick, on Wednesday, November 4, at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens. Carson weighed 9 lbs. 13 ozs. and was 21 ¼ inches long. Maternal grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. Patrick Hitchcock of Lavonia. The maternal great-grandmother is Mrs. Barbara Cofer of Jonesboro.

      The Cornelia Johnson Circle met in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday evening, November 3. Laura Toburen opened the meeting by welcoming members and leading a prayer for Calli Nickels for whom a prayer vigil was being held on The Square at that same time.

Trey Blackmon celebrates third birthday Nov. 15
      Trey Blackmon, son of Bubba and Becky Blackmon, celebrated his third birthday on November 15. Trey enjoyed a celebration on Saturday, November 14, with his family and friends at his home. A fire truck theme celebrated the event. Trey's vanilla birthday cake was topped with a red fire truck and enjoyed with vanilla ice cream and beverages.

Harris talks about aging
     Dr. Joe Harris (left) presented the program for the Washington Rotary Club at its regular Thursday lunch meeting last week and told members about his life-long interest in aging. He talked about various things that affect a person's aging processes. He also spoke briefly about brain mechanics and how neural connections may be preserved or lost. Rotarian Michael Horgan stood in for Charlie LeGette who was program chairman.

Happy at Halloween
     Celebrating at the Kiddie Korner Daycare Center's Halloween party were Kordai McCarty, Tamari Johnson, Paris Mitchell, Tristan Cross, Jacob Posey, Khalilah Graves, Milkaila Stone, Alex Posey, Demonta Lester, Deonte Ardister, Deondre Lester, Quaneisha Davis, Parker Jordan, Keyonna Lester, Dhani Mitchell, Vernisia Lester, Matthew Johnson, Sabrina Jordan, Landon Smith, Demonta Gresham, Quata Davis, Maddison Johnson and parent Keith Smith. The children enjoyed "pigs in a blanket," chicken wings, chips and dip, cookies, cupcakes, juice, and lots of candy. With them were Linda Jordan, owner, and teachers Mary McCarty, Hannah Cross, and Tracy Graves.

Lizzie Keen is Bucs' queen
     Lizzie Keen was selected homecoming queen for Briarwood Academy during the school's 35th Homecoming activities held at the Bucs football game on November 6. She is very active in school athletics and is an All-State member of the girls softball team. She also excels in track and is a state champion in several events as well as an individual high point winner. Lizzie is the daughter of John and Rhonda Keen of Washington.

      Lynsey Walters of Washington- Wilkes graduated from the Tender Care Phlebotomy School in Augusta on October 16. Lynsey is a 2004 graduate of Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School and a 2007 graduate of Athens Technical College in Athens with a Business Technology Degree.

     At the end of the club year for the Optimist Club of Washington, out-going president David Chafin (left) hands over the gavel to incoming president Kyle Brown at the Club's regular meeting in October. The public is reminded that the club's annual Friend of Youth auction and barbecue is set for tonight, November 19, at the VFW post and the annual Christmas tree sale begins next Wednesday, November 25.
