While the Washington-Wilkes Tigers did not go out with a win at the end of their 2009 football season, at least they went out in style as they turned in probably their best game of the year. W-W scored more points than in any other game this year except for the one against Calhoun Falls, and looked better and more complete than ever. More ... The Washington-Wilkes Middle School boys basketball team beat Lincoln County for the second time this season last week when they travelled to Lincolnton and came home with a 47-42 overtime win. The game was deadlocked at 40-all when regulation play ended and the young Tigers were missing four starters. More ... The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department has announced that registration for basketball 2009 has begun. Participants who sign-up before November 16 will receive a $5.00 discount. The final date to sign up is November 23. No late sign-up will be accepted. More ... Two Top 10 teams were beaten last Saturday, but neither was from the Southeast. The region's oldest rivalry was renewed in Athens as Georgia regained a certain amount of respect by downing Auburn by a touchdown. Georgia Tech wrapped up a berth in the ACC title game by trouncing Duke and Clemson moved one step closer to a rematch with the Jackets by humiliating N.C. State. More ... |
