Jesse Cleveland Maddox Jr.
A memorial service for Jesse Cleveland Maddox Jr., 85, of Washington, will be held Sunday, November 22, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Seven Pines Baptist Church, Barnwell, S.C. He died Saturday, November 14, at Heritage Healthcare of Wilkes, Washington.
Mr. Maddox was a native of Lincoln County and was the son of the late Jesse Cleveland and Laura Maude Wells Maddox. He was a retired commercial contractor and had served as president of the Augusta Association for Retarded Children and on the Founding Board of Lyndale School in Augusta. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Washington, and had served in the United States Navy during World War II. His first wife was the late Ruth Boiter Maddox.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Biel Maddox, Barnwell, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Barry Rogers of Washington; a son, Jerry Maddox, Rome; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Monty Morrow, Barnwell, S.C., Susan and Gary Bradham, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Mary and William Baldwin, Summerville, S.C.; a sister, Jane Gable, Barnwell, S.C.; grandchildren, Kay Atkins, Harlem, Heather Allison, Atlanta, Jarrord Allison, Beach Island, S.C., LeAnn Maddox, and Shannon Maddox, Augusta; Eric Maddox, Augusta; and Chip Maddox; and step-grandson, Scott Rogers, Gray.
Floral tributes are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Seven Pines Baptist Church, Barnwell, S.C.; First Baptist Church, Washington; or the Wilkes County Humane Shelter, Washington.
