SOUTHERN STYLE FOOTBALL with CLAUDE CLEATS
Two Top 10 teams were beaten last Saturday, but neither was from the Southeast. The region's oldest rivalry was renewed in Athens as Georgia regained a certain amount of respect by downing Auburn by a touchdown. Georgia Tech wrapped up a berth in the ACC title game by trouncing Duke and Clemson moved one step closer to a rematch with the Jackets by humiliating N.C. State.
Heads will be knocking and pads popping all over Dixie this week as the games get more critical.
Virginia at Clemson - Dabo Swinney's Tigers have won 5 in a row. They will clinch the ACC Atlantic Division title with a win here. Clemson by 17.
LSU at Ole Miss - What a battle this should be! The Rebs have home field advantage. That should be just enough. Ole Miss by 4.
North Carolina at Boston College - BC must win to keep their Atlantic Division title hopes alive. The Heels are coming off a big win over Miami and should win again over the Eagles. North Carolina by 10.
Maryland at Wake Forest - The Demon Deacons should prevail in this clash of ACC "also rans." Wake by 13.
N.C. State at Virginia Tech - The Hokies from the Commonwealth add to the woes of the Wolfpack. Virginia Tech by 13.
Vandy at Tennessee - Even the distraction of the armed robbery incident will not be enough to give Vandy the upset. Tennessee by 15.
Duke at Miami - These two teams have good offenses and no defense. Miami won't lose to Duke at home. Miami by 14.
Kentucky at Georgia - The Dawgs need to be careful of a letdown following the emotional win over Auburn. Georgia became bowl eligible by squeaking by Auburn. This should be another squeaker. UGA by 4.
Louisville at South Florida - Even the late season swoon USE is in won't keep them from whipping hapless Louisville. USF by 17.
Memphis at Tulsa - Tiger coach Tommy West's swan song is another loss. Tulsa by 15.
Tulane at Central Florida - The Knights upset nationally ranked Houston last week and should easily pick up another win here. UCF by 19.
Florida International at Florida - Give me a break! Florida by 48.
Chattanooga at Alabama - The Tide has never been beaten by the Mocs. Nothing will change this Saturday. Bama by 40.
Mississippi State vs Arkansas (at Little Rock) - This battle should be one of the best of the weekend. Little Rock is a second home to the Razorbacks and they should eke one out over the improved Bulldogs. Arkansas by 3.
