      Emma Grace Denard Mr. and Mrs. John A. Denard of Naples, Florida announce the birth of their daughter, Emma Grace, on Thursday, November 12, at North Collier Hospital in Naples. She weighed 6 lbs. 13 oz. She has two brothers, Eli, who is four years old, and Owen, who is two years old.

      Abby Callaway and Chris Mc- Garr, who were married November 7, were treated to a couple's shower on October 17, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Bailey and Lindsey Callaway in Upton Mills. The bride-elect was presented a corsage of cream and lilac Alstroemeria lilies and chrysanthemums to complement her multicolored sweater ensemble.

      A group of Washington friends and their guests enjoyed a sevennight Western Caribbean cruise November 1-7. After an overnight stay in St. Augustine, Fla., on Saturday evening, the group sailed from Port Canaveral, Fla., aboard the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas.

Organic gardening is subject of W-W Garden Club program
      Sandy LeGette spoke on organic gardening as she presented the program to members of the Washington Wilkes Garden Club Thursday, November 12, at the North Wilkes Library in Tignall. Mrs. LeGette, introduced by Carol Daniel, displayed numerous varieties of winter squash and pumpkins as she talked about the benefits of organic gardening.

      Robert "Skeet" Willingham was guest speaker at the meeting of the Kettle Creek Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution Monday, November 16, at the Woman's Club in Washington. Following the luncheon, Betty Slaton introduced Mr. Willingham to members and guests.

Eligible seniors can get assistance with energy bills
      Applications will be received Monday, November 30, for seniors who are 65 years or older who are interested in participating in the Low Income Energy Assistance program in Wilkes County. The program is to assist in paying heating bills.

Jackson Pope celebrates fourth birthday Oct. 26
      Jackson Pope, son of Pembroke and Chrissie Pope of Canton, celebrated his fourth birthday on October 26. Jackson was treated to a fire truck theme party a couple of days before on October 24 at Play Activity Center in Roswell. The kids were entertained with games and activities at the center.

      Larry Tyler of Dunwoody visited Sunday with his mother, Marjorie Tyler, and joined her at First United Methodist Church for the services and the Thanksgiving dinner following. l Visiting during the weekend with Dottie Norman were Mal and Anna Heaton of Moulton, Ala. Mrs. Heaton stayed in Washington for an extended holiday visit.

Connely presents flower arranging program at Iris Garden Club meeting
      Laura Connely of Washington presented an informative and enjoyable program to members of the Iris Garden Club as they met Tuesday, November 10, in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church. She demonstrated the art of making flower arrangements using painted terra cotta pots with materials from the garden and flowers from the store.

Paw Prints donated to W-W Shelter
     The Paw Prints Foundation, headed by Dr. Nancy McNair (left), raised over $5,000 to benefit the animals at the Washington-Wilkes Humane Animal Shelter. The silent and live auctions were held at Taylor BMW in Augusta. The shelter expressed its appreciation to all of the local businesses and individuals who donated items for the auctions. Pictured with Dr. McNair is Bonnie Branch, adoption coordinator for the shelter and treasurer of the Washington-Wilkes Humane Animal Society.

     Washington-Wilkes Middle School Students of the Month are (front, l-r), Allison Stone, Jose Angel, (back) Madison Powell, Doneisha Booker, Ryan Colvard, and Gavin Garrett. Two students are chosen from each grade level for this honor. Students selected must have a positive attitude, a strong desire to learn, excellent behavior, and a willingness to help others. They each received a certificate, goody bag, and a free breakfast meal certificate from McDonald's.

      The First Baptist Church, Washington, will have a series of "Set Our Hearts On Fire" Winter Revival Services beginning Sunday morning, December 6. Services will be held each evening, Sunday through Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m.; and there will be devotional services each morning at 7:00 a.m.

      Happy Thanksgiving to all! The way to have a happy holiday is to be with family or dear friends. There is one Thanksgiving I will always remember and that was the only one spent away from my parents. I had to learn quickly how to cook a turkey and dressing as I was having another over for dinner.

      There's not much news this week since my editor asked for news to be turned in by Friday for early publication for this week. .James and I went to Tignall Baptist Church Tuesday for the senior program and Thanksgiving luncheon. The guest speaker was Homer from Homerville aka Rev. Waldroup of Union Point. He is quite funny. He put on a cute skit and kept us laughing.
