We give our best wishes to all our students and staff as they spend time with their families.

The students in Lise Kalla's eighth grade career classes were recently visited by Ashley Barnett, tourism director at the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce. Barnett spoke about career opportunities in Wilkes County and encouraged the students to do well in school, graduate, and go on for more training or education so that they will come back and work in our county.

In basketball, the girls and boys teams played two games since our last article. On November 12 both teams were victorious at Lincoln County. The Lady Tigers were victorious with a 43-35 win, holding the lead most of the night. The point leader was T'Alexius Cullars with 14, followed by Aaliya Berry with 12, Ariel Lewis with 11, Dorian Favors with 4, and Kathleen Storrin with 2. Strong defensive efforts by Brittany Gresham, Hannah Forester, and Darien Pender helped us hold the opponent back. The boys defeated Lincoln County, 47-42. At one time our team was leading by 25 points. Tomarkus Young scored 14 points, Christian Keiser scored 11 points, Vincent Wilkinson scored 9 points, and Darrel Ware scored 2 points.

The basketball teams travelled to Taliaferro County, November 16, with mixed results. The girls lost, 29-11. They had eight points by Ariel Lewis, two by Darien Pender, and a free throw by Kathleen Storrin. The boys came out on top with a score of 38-31. After being down by one point at halftime, the Tigers made a tough come back the second half of the game. Vincent Wilkinson scored a whopping 29 points and Chris Jackson scored 5 points. "Defense was stellar!" Middle School Principal Bill Pendrey had to say. The Tigers are now 3-0 for the season. Good job, guys!

W-WMS Junior Beta Club held a meeting on Tuesday, November 17. For the club's November project, students chose to bring in dog or cat food to donate to the Wilkes County Animal Shelter. They decided to do this after reading about a burglary that had occurred there a few months ago. Beta Club members collected 40 bags of dog and cat food. Those who brought in food were rewarded. Also, several of the members of the Beta Club have agreed to volunteer at the shelter.
