Happy Thanksgiving to all! The way to have a happy holiday is to be with family or dear friends. There is one Thanksgiving I will always remember and that was the only one spent away from my parents. I had to learn quickly how to cook a turkey and dressing as I was having another over for dinner. There was no such thing as calling on the telephone, so I wrote a letter to my mother asking for help. That couple (from California) did not appreciate our Southern traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I still have my mother's letter telling me how to make dressing and how to cook the turkey. No one can cook dressing and turkey like your mom. That letter is still very helpful, but most of all I have her written words that are precious to me. How we looked forward to mail in those days! Now we don't look forward to mail because it's all bills or catalogs. .Wilbur and Ouida Maney spent Thursday, November 12, through Monday, November 16, in Columbus, Mississippi. They enjoyed being with Ouida's three brothers and all their families with the Bracken family reunion. Ruth Strickland, the Maneys' daughter, made the trip with them to the reunion. .David and Nancy Hilley visited Stacy and Amanda Hilley, Owen and Warren in Commerce Thursday, November 12, through Saturday, November 14. Owen returned home with them and spent Saturday and Sunday night. .About 50 senior adults enjoyed the humor of Homer from Homerville (Dr. Norman Waldrip of Greensboro) last Tuesday at the Tignall Baptist Church. They all had a dose of the best medicine, laughter. After the entertainment they enjoyed a delicious traditional Thanksgiving meal. .Speaking of Thanksgiving meals, Layton and Gloria Harris enjoyed Thanksgiving lunch with their granddaughter, Aubree Harris, at Falling Creek Elementary School in Elberton on Thursday .Mary Ann Williams is home after having surgery last week. Her sister, Berry Nix from Clarkesville, has been with Mary Ann for several days. Her daughter, Gina Witchter of Elberton, also visited two days last week. .We are glad to hear that Joan Baker is doing well after having surgery for a pacemaker. .Don't forget the Charlotte Ritchie concert at Beulah Baptist Church Sunday, November 29, at 6 p.m. .Also remember another concert -- the country music star, Ty Herndon, will be performing at the Tignall Gym on Thursday night, December 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. This will be a benefit for Calli Nickels. Those who want to meet this star may do so at the Keener home at 6 p.m. (that is for 100 people.) .The Christmas tree will be placed under the gazebo at the old school grounds and lit after the Christmas parade on Sunday, December 6. Be sure and get everything looking festive and ready for the parade that afternoon at 3 p.m.
