New website features daily events, announcements, 'parent resources'

W-WMS Corner

W-WMS has a newly designed website! The website features daily announcements and upcoming events. Parents and students can access PowerSchool to check their grades by selecting the "parent resources" button. Teachers have recently been given the tools to create class web pages so that students can access their assignments online. To view the website, go to http://wwms.wilkes.k12.ga.us.

On Tuesday, November 16, the teachers of the year, principals, and vice principals from all of the Wilkes County schools had lots of fun at McTeacher Night at McDonald's. McTeacher Night's purpose is to gather support from the teachers, students, and their families in an effort to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. W-WMS came in second for donations that evening. As a reward, the teachers were given a gift card that they may redeem for a dessert of their choice at the Washington McDonald's. We thank David and Janie Cravens, owners of McDonald's, for allowing us to participate in McTeacher Night.

Pam Hall's and Joni Keiser's sixth grade language arts classes recently completed a project about a book they had read, Bearstone, by Will Hobbs. The assignment focused on the characterization of the book. Students had the choice of creating and presenting a diorama depicting a scene in the book, a story box in which the students wrote about the personality of a character from the book, or a character bag in which the students placed 10 quotes from a character of the book. Mrs. Hall's gifted class created a 15-slide PowerPoint presentation about the book that included three main points, conflicts and resolutions, the protagonist and antagonist, the theme, the plot, and the setting.

Yearbooks are on sale for a discount price of $25 until winter break. In January, the yearbook prices will go up to $28. Students may pay half of the price now and the rest at a later date. This year the Tiger News staff, who write the Tiger Corner news each week and the school newsletter, The Tiger Paw, is creating the yearbook. The yearbook's theme this year is "Dare to Dream." Buy quickly before they're gone!
