Funeral services for Carrie Johnson, 95, of Wilkes County were held Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Rayle, with Rev. James McIver officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died November 28.

Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Sam and Mandy Bankston and was the widow of Will D. Johnson. They were married for 63 years. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served as the secretary of the Sunday School for 33 years and was a church mother. She served as secretary for the Wilkes and Oglethorpe Singing Convention for more than 40 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Fleming of Rayle; two grandchildren, Everett Price, Augusta, and Linda Durham, Radcliff, Ky.; four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Smith of Athens; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
