It is amazing what some people do for fun. I cannot understand why some people think the polar plunge is so much fun. Some of the northern cold states have what they call the polar plunge and people run out into the cold, cold ocean and jump in with nothing but their swimsuits on. Fun to me would be an all day shopping trip or putting my feet up with a good book. There are many crazy actions people try out in the name of fun --for instance, bungee jumping, hang gliding, or mountain climbing. When I was a teenager the way to have fun was to climb the fire tower. Do they have lots of nerve or do they not have any nerves? I have never been young enough to even enjoy riding a roller coaster! It’s good that people are all different because that’s what makes life interesting. .Sara Frances Henderson attended the 100th birthday party for Maybelle Crowder, first cousin of her late husband, Charles Henderson. This celebration took place at the First Baptist Church in Elberton. This 100-year-old lady still works at a drug store in Elberton three days a week. Maybe that's why she is still living -- keeping busy. Sara Frances offered her a chair and she said, "No honey, I don't need a chair." .William Rhodes visited his brother, Albert Rhodes Jr. (Dunnie), in Mc- Donough Tuesday, December 1. .Carolyn Gammon attended an Alpha Theta Chapter (teachers sorority) meeting of Delta Kappa Gamma Saturday at the Crawford Baptist Church in Crawford. Others from Wilkes County attending this meeting were Ann Tiller, Debbie Lindsey, Pauline Bell, President Judy Coxwell, Laura Leard, Jillian Andrews, Carol Souther, Janie Cravens, Mary Lois Newsome, and Daphne Albertson. There was a delicious lunch followed by the annual Christmas auction. Margaret went with Otis and Martha Ann Fortson and spent Sunday night with them. .I heard that Louise Denard killed her first deer -- not with a gun. She hit the deer with her car, so she also killed a car. .Scott and Kathy Ware and Stacey, Kevin and Lori Tucker, Jake and Kolbi took a trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., last Thursday and returned Sunday. Joining them Saturday were Darrell and Helen Rogers. This was the fourth year that Scott and Kathy had gone to enjoy the big Christmas parade in Gatlinburg. They returned in time for Stacey to join another much smaller parade in Tignall with his granddaddy, Donald Ware, who was participating as a member of the Shriners of Elberton. .Getting back late from Disney World Sunday after Thanksgiving, I failed to get everyone's news of Thanksgiving. Leon and Linda Aycock hosted Thanksgiving supper with the following family and friends: Brian and Tonya Callaway and Greg, Chris Charping, Otis and Pat Callaway, Patsy Epps, Kay Seymour, and Gordon and Jewell Brown of North Carolina. .Hugh and Nobie Keener spent Thanksgiving Day in Snellville at the home of their son, Vince Keener. The other family members, Dave Keener and Chris and Angie Keener, Madison and Nolan, all enjoyed dinner together at Vince's. Friday after Thanksgiving, Chris and Angie Keener, Madison and Nolan of Loganville visited with Hugh and Nobie until Sunday. .Gracen Ware, daughter of Dean and Cristy Ware, has been selected from the American Queen Registry to be in the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl Parade in Memphis, Tenn. This is such a busy time of the year for Gracen and her family that she will not be able to participate, but this was quite an honor to be chosen. .Stacy Hilley of Commerce brought his son Owen to his grandparents, David and Nancy Hilley, Sunday afternoon to spend the night. They attended the Christmas program and social at Mallorysville Baptist Church. .David and Nancy Hilley met Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Adams of Elberton in Anderson, S.C., last Wednesday to celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary. They were married on December 17, 1961, and have not missed a year in 48 years of celebrating together. We don't find many like that these days. .We are sorry to hear that Paula Butts broke her ankle last week and Vernilla Clark has been in the hospital with pneumonia. Also include the following: Myrline Thornton, Frances Vinson, Phoebe Davis, Christine Burton, Vivian Wolozin, Brenda Bunch, Calli Nickels, Albert Rhodes Jr., Mary Edna Ferguson, Erson Bufford, and Elaine "Kitten" Fain. .The Tignall Baptist Adult Choir will present its Christmas musical Sunday morning, December 20, and the youth and children will present a play and musical the evening of December 20. There will be an annual church Christmas party after the presentation. We are asked to bring our favorite finger food. Everyone is welcome to both programs. Children's programs always have surprises that even the directors are surprised with. .Tignall notecards with sketches drown by Kat Dodson of scenes in Tignall may be purchased at the F&M Bank in Tignall or from Sarah Pelot. They would make perfect Christmas presents.
