Funeral services for Irene Carney Schmeelk, 88, of Lincolnton will be held Saturday, December 19, 2009, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Washington at 11 a.m. She died December 13 at her home.

Mrs. Schmeelk was born in Lebanon, Conn., and was the daughter of the late John and Millie Ward Carney. She was the widow of John Schmeelk. She was a resident of Thompson, Conn., for more than 20 years before moving to Zephyrhills, Fla., and to Lincoln County 26 years ago. She had retired from American Optical and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Washington.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel J. and Linda Schmeelk of Thompson, Conn.; a daughter, Geraldine Birdsey, Lincolnton; a brother, William Carney of Lebanon, Conn.; a sister, Edith Ferrigno, Windham, Conn.; five grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

Beggs Funeral Home of Lincolnton was in charge of arrangements.
