Wilkes NAACP will celebrate Emancipation program Jan. 1
The Wilkes County Branch NAACP will be celebrating the 147th Emancipation program on January 1, 2010, at 12:00 noon. The program will be held at the Third Shiloh Mission Center, 119 McLendon Drive, Washington, with Dr. Roger Williams as the keynote speaker.
“We invite everybody to attend the program and bring the whole family, especially the children,” says Rev. G.L. Avery, Wilkes County Chapter President.
“As we celebrate our hard-earned victories, we want to remind our children and young people of the struggle we had in order to get where we are today,” he said.
