Genevieve Coe entertains DAR members with musical program
Genevieve Coe presented a program of Christmas music on the harp for the DAR last week. She was introduced by Mrs. Mike Scarborough, monthly program chairman.
The Kettle Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met on December 16 at noon in the Washington Woman’s Club. Chapter Regent Mrs. William Butler called the meeting to order. Mrs. Thad Broome, chaplain, led the chapter in the opening rituals and offered the blessing for the delicious meal. The hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. Thad Broome, Mrs. David Toburen, Miss Carol Cartledge, Mrs. Billy Lindsey, and Mrs. Jim Roberts.
After lunch, Miss Genevieve Coe presented a lovely musical program on the harp. Following the program, Mrs. Butler presided over the business meeting. Mrs. Jim Burton, treasurer, gave the financial report. Mrs. Millie Arnold gave the National Defense message in which she reminded the members of the importance of supporting the families of military personnel.
Mrs. Butler reported on the ceremony in early December commemorating the Battle of Vann’s Creek. She laid a wreath for the Kettle Creek Chapter in memory of the fallen patriots of that battle. Mrs. Butler read a letter of appreciation from the DAR School, Tamassee, for the $100 donation to National DAR Projects.
Also, in early December, Mrs. Butler attended an open house at the DAR facility in Augusta, Meadow Gardens. She took cookies baked by members for the event.
Mrs. Gene Pollock reported that Chandler Goldman of Lincoln County was the Kettle Creek Chapter winner of the DAR Good Citizenship Award. He will compete with other high school students across the state. Mrs. Mike Scarborough reported that a Christmas donation will be presented to the VA Clinic in Athens to be used for immediate needs of veterans.
Mrs. Butler announced that the SAR Chapter will hold its organizing meeting and banquet on December 17.
