Pharr, Norman, Pope earn high positions in District Ten Band

Washington-Wilkes band students received top honors at the District Ten Honor Band competition.

Michael Pharr earned first chair trumpet for ninth and tenth grade concert band. Damon Norman was selected as second chair baritone. For eleventh and twelfth grade symphonic band, John Pope earned first chair baritone saxophone.

All students that auditioned were asked to play scales and sight read. Band members competed with students from Columbia, Richmond, Burke, McDuffie, Washington, Oglethorpe, Lincoln, Warren, and Jefferson counties.

“I am so proud of their efforts and achievements,” said band director Jeff Thomas. “The last four years have been very successful for us as we have had excellent representation in the District Ten Honor Band.”
