‘Love and care’ makes hearts glad

TO THE EDITOR:

I just wanted to express my deepest thanks to everyone who participated in our Operation Love and Care in a Shoebox for all our seniors in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

I knew this year was harder on a lot of folks here in Wilkes County and it seemed that the time to collect the boxes was here before we knew it. Yet the people of this community came through and packed such wonderful boxes. The first deadline came and went and I was stressing out because we didn’t have enough boxes to deliver to all that we promised. A special group came forward and made it possible for us to finish getting boxes together and make good on delivering to all our seniors. We were able to deliver boxes to Washington Manor by way of Dr. Joe Harris, Heritage Health Care Center, Harper’s Personal Care, Tignall Assisted Living, CSRA Day Care, Rayle Assisted Living, and some of the Meals-on-Wheels recipients.

I will not try to name everyone who donated a box, but I do want you to know that the gift you gave, especially this year with the economy being bad, made hearts very glad. It was so touching to help folks open their boxes and explore all the goodies that were packed inside. They were so appreciative of the effort that showed someone cared for them.

I hope we can continue to do this for our seniors every year. Begin collecting now for your boxes next year and we’ll be able to reach even more. Again thank you very much for all your “love and care” which you packed so nicely in those boxes.
