Jerry Victor Tippins

Funeral services for Jerry Victor Tippins, 77, of Danburg Road, Washington, were held Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Hopkins Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors followed at Resthaven Cemetery. He died Saturday, December 26, at his home.

Mr. Tippins was born in Daytona Beach, Fla., and was the son of the late Victor Frank Tippins and the late Nancy Bertha Malcom Tippins. He was a member of Pathway Community Church, Washington. His first career was with the U.S. Air Force. During his Vietnam deployment he was selected by General William Westmoreland to be his personal crew chief. For exemplary service over his entire career, Mr. Tippins was awarded several medals, including the Air Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. After 30 years of service in the United States military, Mr. Tippins retired at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He continued with a civil-service career from which he retired in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Tippins of Washington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jim Sutton, Ft. Worth, Texas, LeAnne and Dennis Sims, Florala, Ala., and Vicki and Tom Burk, Washington; two brothers, John Tippins, Las Vegas, Nev., and Dan Tippins, Daytona Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.
