Job applicants needed for short-term jobs with 2010 U.S. Census
More testing is set for next week at the Mary Willis Library as the U.S. Census Bureau is still looking for short-term employees for the 2010 Census.
“We are up to about 65% of the needed job applicants for Wilkes County but there are still a lot of openings to be filled,” said Wanda Cox, Wilkes County recruiting assistant for the U.S. Census Bureau.
Testing for the short-term census jobs still available continues Tuesday, January 19, at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m. at the Mary Willis Library meeting room. “We will be setting up more dates plus some more evening dates for people that can’t make the morning times,” she said. “People can also call 866-861- 2010 to find out test dates.”
Many of those who have already applied will be hired in the coming weeks, Cox said. “If you’ve applied and haven’t been called, please be patient. Calls are going out now, and heavy hiring will start the last part of January and the first of February.”
“All the test takers need to bring with them is a drivers license and Social Security Card or birth certificate,” Cox said. “We need crew leaders, supervisors, and enumerators. We’ll need to man Quality Assurance Centers in Washington and Tignall to help people fill our their forms.”
People from adjoining counties can test in Washington if it is more convenient for them, Cox said, and qualified applicants will be forwarded to their area recruiter.
The government’s website, www.2010censusjobs.gov, says these short-term jobs “offer good pay, flexible hours, paid training, and reimbursement for authorized workrelated expenses. And census takers work in their own communities.”
