Wilkes teen is recovering from injuries sustained in fatal crash

A Wilkes County middle school student is recovering at the Doctors Hospital Burn Center in Augusta from injuries he sustained in a New Year’s Eve accident that killed two men in Greene County.

Ridge Moore, 14, was a passenger in a truck driven by Emmett “Mitch” Taylor, 22, of Union Point, which collided with a truck driven by UGA student Michael Warren, 21, of St. Simons, Greene County authorities say.

Taylor and Moore were traveling south on the narrow, two-lane Highway 15 from Athens toward Greensboro when Taylor’s truck crossed the center line and collided head-on with Warren’s truck. Taylor had been in Athens awaiting the birth of his sister’s baby at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Georgia State Patrol troopers said that neither driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. Both drivers were killed instantly, they say.

Ridge Moore was reported to be in serious condition at Doctors Hospital in Augusta with burns to his legs.
