The Washington-Wilkes Tiger boys basketball team went 2-1 in the past week’s games and boosted their season record into the winners column at 7-6.

Most of those six losses don’t really count because region games have just started. However, the region schedule got off on a not-so-good foot with a loss to Warren County 52-70 last Tuesday in Warrenton. Undaunted, the Tigers bounced back with a region win over Taliaferro County (72-55) and a bonus win over Georgia Military College (60-37) the next day.

After the dismal loss to Warren, Matson Keiser emerged as the leading scorer for W-W in both of last weekend’s games. He also continued with his impressive rate of steals with five against Taliaferro and six more against GMC. He currently leads the state with 82 steals and an average of 6.3 per game.

At home against Taliaferro, Keiser also had a double-double with 10 assists, and he added eight rebounds as well. Eric Scott and Akeimos Coleman were right behind with 14 points each and Scott pulled down seven boards. Neko Jones was tops defensively scoring a double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.

At GMC, Dez Jackson shared the high-scoring honors with Keiser – they had a dozen each. Coleman added 10 points and the rest of the scoring was spread out even to some reliable bench players. Keiser and Scott led the rebounding effort with eight each.

On Tuesday of this week the Tigers hosted Aquinas (9-4, 1-0) in their third region game of the season. Then for the weekend, the boys will travel to Lincoln County on Friday night and then Glascock County on Saturday night.
