Home invasion is Tea and Learn’s topic February 10

Wills Memorial Hospital will host a Tea and Learn February 10 at 2:30 p.m., in the Simpson Building on Gordon Street. The building is the old mental health building.

Washington Chief of Police Mike Davis will speak on home invasion. This is a crime of entering a private and occupied dwelling with the intent of committing a crime, and often the resident is there.

Home invasion differs from burglary, which is usually defined as unlawful entry into any occupied or unoccupied building, with the intent to commit one of a list of specified offenses. Home invasion covers an intent to commit any crime.

Chief Davis graduated from high school in 1970 in Canton, N.C., and entered the U.S. Army upon graduation. He has an impressive background in military police security. He retired as Installation Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army. He assumed the position as Chief of Police with the Washington Police Department in November 1988. In June 2008, he completed his Masters in Criminal Justice at Troy University.
