W-W FBLA finishes strong in region competition

Two members of the Washington- Wilkes Comprehensive High School Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) took first place awards in their events in region competition last week. John Lovvorn captured two first place awards and Hannah McTier got one. Seven other W-W members also placed in their respective events at the competition.

Fifteen W-WCHS members attended the Region 15 conference and competition on January 19, and with them were Amy Harkins and Tanya Morgan, advisors, and Amy Wheatley, chaperone and bus driver. The event was held at Madison County High School.

Jessica Spradlin, Region 15 president, and Michael Edwards, Region 15 secretary, were recognized as officers and led in the program’s agenda. Spradlin also conducted workshops entitled “Spark” and Edwards conducted workshops entitled “Rock Around the Clock.”

Other W-WCHS members attending workshops and participating in competitions included Tiffany Rogers, Rebecca Wilson, Hannah Mc- Tier, Paige McAvoy, Loni Thomson, Adam Hackney, Will Lawson, Dauri Binns, Erika Jefferson, Kaitlyn Bagwell, Doug Standard, Kohen Wolfe, and Whitney Branham.

Nine W-WCHS FBLA members placed in the top 10 in various events including Kohen Wolfe, ninth in Computer Applications; Will Lawson, seventh in Introduction to Technology Concepts; Hannah McTier, fourth in Word Processing I, and first in Introduction to Business Communication; Dauri Binns and Erika Jefferson, third in Business Ethics; Tiffany Rogers third in Economics; Loni Thomson, third in Spreadsheet Applications; Jessica Spradlin, second in Future Business Leader; and Rob Lovvorn, first in Business Calculations, and first in Future Business Leader.

These competitors will advance to the State Leadership Conference in Atlanta to be held March 26-28. In addition, the team of Kaitlyn Bagwell, Rebecca Wilson, and Hannah McTier will advance to the state FBLA Monopoly Tournament.

National FBLA Week is February 7-13. The W-WCHS FBLA Chapter has many exciting activities for its members and students in Business and Computer Science classes including an FBLA social, various “dress-up” days, tie-a-tie workshops, March of Dimes fund-raiser, FBLA scavenger hunt, Monopoly tournament, teacher appreciation day, and many more fun opportunities.
