Gussie Blondine Hardy McAvoy
Funeral services for Gussie Blondine Hardy McAvoy, 95, of Quaker Springs Rd., Washington, were held Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Phillips Mill Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Sullivan and Rev. Robert Rayner officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Cemetery. She died Friday, January 22, in Wills Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. McAvoy was a native of Wilkes County and had lived here all of her life. She was the widow of Thomas McAvoy, and the daughter of the late Lester H. Hardy and Sarah Norman Hardy. She worked at Almar for a number of years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Phillips Mill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mary Jane and Thomas McAvoy Jr. of Washington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Willie M. and Gayle Roberson of Washington, and Sarah Nell and Robert Baynham of Clarks Hill, S.C.; 12 grandchildren, Benji McAvoy, Brett McAvoy, Dawn Moore, Mary Donna Hall, Rodney Roberson, Tommy Roberson, Kevin Roberson, Julie Lee, Bert Baynham, Barry Baynham, Ashley Phail, and Alison Baynham; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers and included Benji McAvoy, Brett McAvoy, Rodney Roberson, Tommy Roberson, Kevin Roberson, and Barry Baynham. Great-grandsons served as honorary pallbearers and included Joshua Saggus, Caleb Saggus, Emory McAvoy, Scotty Roberson, Latham Roberson, Jason McAvoy, Austin Hall, Alex Hall, Anthony Hall, and Aykin Hall.
Memorials may be made to the Phillips Mill Baptist Church or to Gideons International.
Hopkins Funereal Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
