Funeral services for Mary Patterson Long, 88, of Berrien Springs, was held Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Legacy Family Funeral Services, Matthew R. Purchase Chapel, with Rev. Bill Jacobs of SS John and Bernard Parish, St. John Catholic Church officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Benton Harbor. She died Saturday, January 9, at Gilead Elder Care.

Mrs. Long was a native of Wilkes County and the daughter of the late Frazier Frank and Susie Mae Newsome Patterson. She was the widow of Samuel Joseph Long who died in 1988. She had been a nurse, working in home care for many years, and also worked at Voice of Music.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Richard Fodor of Bridgman; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph S. and Anne Long of South Haven; two sisters, Lois Greene of Crawfordville and Elmyra Chafin of Washington; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She also had four deceased sisters, all of Wilkes County, Louise Gaines, Irene Swann, Earlene Jones, and Hazel Hunt, and a brother, Herbert Patterson.
