Big-time pro and amateur cross-country dirt bike racing returns to Aonia Pass on March 6 -7, and a full year of events will follow. Aonia Pass Motocross Park has set a full schedule of events that will bring thousands of motocross, cross-country, short track, and vintage motorcyclists to Wilkes County this season.

Two big events dominate the sea- son. The Can-Am Grand National Cross-Country event “The General,” one of the largest off-road dirt bike and ATV events in the nation, will return the weekend of March 6 and 7.

The second big event is the annual regional qualifier for the Loretta Lynn 2010 Amateur National Motocross Championships set for the weekend of June 11-13.

Each of the two events is expected to bring 1,500 riders of all ages, and twice that number of friends, family, and fans to Aonia Pass. Both events have had a definite impact on businesses in Washington as crowds fill restaurants, supermarkets, and lodging throughout the area.

Between the big events, several smaller events will bring riders and fans in the hundreds to Aonia Pass. On Saturday, February 20, an AHRMA Vintage Event will bring riders to compete in motocross, trials, dirt track, cross country, short track, and youth vintage races. The weekend of March 13-14, the Best in Georgia Amateur AMA Motocross is expected to bring riders from around the state for competition.

The AHRMA Vintage racers return on Saturday, April 24, and the 7th annual Dreamhouse Charity Family Fun Trail Ride returns on April 25 to raise funds for the Dreamhouse for Medically Fragile Children.

In May, the AHRMA Vintage racers are back on Saturday, May 15, and the Best in Georgia motocross racers return May 29 and 30. The SORCS Offroad Racing brings local woods racing on June 27, then action pauses for the summer heat.

The AHRMA Vintage racers return on Saturday, September 25, and for a night enduro event on November 5, followed by a full weekend of competition November 6 and 7.
