Hiring for temporary U.S. Census jobs will start next Monday, February 8, and there are still jobs available throughout Wilkes County including in Tignall and Rayle, where testing is set for later this week.

Many of those who have already passed the test will be contacted and hired soon. “If you’ve applied and haven’t been called, please be patient. Calls will be going out starting Monday, February 8, for those who have passed the test,” said Wanda Cox, Wilkes County recruiting assistant for the U.S. Census Bureau.

More testing is set for Tuesday, February 9, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Mary Willis Library. In an effort to reach Rayle and Tignall, Cox has set up testing at Tignall City Hall on Friday, February 5, at 10 a.m. and Wednesday, February 10, at 10 a.m.; and at Rayle City Hall on Friday, February 5, at 2 p.m. and Friday, February 12, at 10 a.m.

“We’re getting close to having all the needed job applicants for Wilkes County but there are still openings, especially in Tignall and Rayle, to be filled,” she said.

Applicants can also call 866- 861-2010 to find out test dates, she said.

“All the test takers need to bring with them is a drivers license and Social Security Card or birth certificate,” Cox said. “We need crew leaders, supervisors, and enumerators. We’ll need to man Quality Assurance Centers in Washington and Tignall to help people fill our their forms.”

People from adjoining counties may test in Washington if it is more convenient for them, Cox said, and qualified applicants will be forwarded to their area recruiter.
