‘Tiger Baseball Day’ set, includes JV doubleheader
As winter begins to give way to spring, baseball fans will begin to hear to ping of aluminum bats at Tiger Field as the 2010 Washington-Wilkes Tiger baseball team starts gearing up for the new season. With the opening game now just barely more than a week away, the players and fans may be in for some chili games early on.
The official season opener will be on Monday, February 22, against the Elbert County Blue Devils at Tiger Field beginning at 5 p.m. However, the W-W Middle School baseball team will be taking part in a tournament in Thomson two days earlier.
A new bonus event for 2010 will be “Tiger Baseball Day” on Saturday, February 27, beginning at 10 a.m. Organized and planned by players’ parents in an effort to fund a new sound system, the day’s celebration will include “food and drinks, great raffle prizes, and more.”
The day will also include a JV doubleheader against Elbert County starting at 1 p.m. More details will be reported as they are made available.
