Eddie Lee Ivery to be black history speaker for Jackson Chapel AME program Feb. 28

Eddie Lee Ivery, Parental Involvement Coordinator of the McDuffie County Board of Education School System, will be the black history speaker at Jackson Chapel AME Church Sunday, February 28, at 11 a.m.

Ivery is a native of Thomson where he started in football, basketball, and track before graduating in 1975 from Thomson High School. During his senior year he rushed for 1710 yards, made 18 touchdowns, and participated in the Georgia High School All-Star game.

He received a scholarship to Geor- gia Tech and still holds the single game record for yards gained with 356 and the single season rushing mark of 1562 yards which he attained during the 1978 season as a senior.

He was the first round draft choice of the Green Bay Packers in 1979 and played eight years as running back and wide receiver despite having to overcome two major knee operations in three years. After helping his alma mater to a region football championship in 1990 as backfield coach, he returned to Georgia Tech where he received a degree in industrial management in 1992.

Ivery returned to Georgia Tech in 2000 where he was an assistant player development coach, helping to construct strength and conditioning programs for athletes in football, tennis, cheerleading, swimming and diving for eight years.

Ivery is employed by the McDuffie County Board of Education as the parental involvement coordinator and says he is excited about helping the students and athletes reach their full potential.

He is married to Antoinette Jackson Ivery. He has two children, Tauvia and Eddie Lee Ivery Jr., both of Tampa, Fla.; and one grandchild, Angel Lalor. He also has a stepson, Javaris Young of College Grove, Ala. Ivery and his wife, Antoinette, are proud parents of their first child, Gabriella.

Jackson Chapel AME members and staff invite members of churches in the area and surrounding counties to attend this special program on February 28.
