Mildred Sisson honored for years of dedication at Beaverdam Baptist
Mrs. Carl Sisson was recognized at Beaverdam Baptist Church Sunday for her dedicated service and love for Beaverdam.
Mrs. Sisson was presented a large print Bible and a certificate of appreciation by Richard Byrd, chairman of the deacons, and the pastor, Rev. John McMillian.
The presentation was made during the fellowship meal in the Clifton Barrett Fellowship Hall following Rev. McMillian’s sermon titled “Jesus Witnessing to Nicodemus.”
Mrs. Sisson, who was greatly surprised, expressed her appreciation and love to Beaverdam Church and its members. During the 61 years she has been a member of Beaverdam she has served in many positions and has been clerk for the past 16 years.
Local family members attending were her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Tommy Wheatley; her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Richard and Lisa McAvoy; and her niece, Betty Winfrey.
Tables in the fellowship hall were covered with white cloths and beautifully decorated with a lovely arrangement of red and pink camellias from the churchyard on the food table and smaller arrangements placed at intervals down the center of the other tables. Colorful Valentine confetti was scattered at the base of each arrangement. The hall was decorated by the hospitality committee members consisting of Rosie Maxwell, Betty Byrd, Elaine Mathews, and Marie Maxwell.
