World War II Veteran honored
Joe Harris, treasurer of the Washington-Wilkes Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, was surprised at the January 21 chapter meeting when local, state, and national SAR members and DAR members present honored his service in World War II. Harris was awarded the National Society Sons of the American Revolution “War Service Medal” with WW II Campaign Bar. Harris served in the Pacific Theater during WW II and later with the Occupation Forces in Japan. His wife, Dot (right), pinned the medal on Joe’s coat and he was presented a National SAR Certificate. The certificate read in part, “in grateful recognition for service in the armed forces during armed conflict.”
