Tampa programs for animals could be started by W-W

TO THE EDITOR:

I live in Tampa but I am from Washington. When I was there in June I donated to the shelter and had done so since.

What I wanted to write to you about is a website, www.theanimalrescuesite. com. There you can help animals by clicking the site. It is free. But after you click the site to do this, there is a place at the top of the page where you can vote for your favorite shelter to help them with funding. You can only do the voting once a day. I do it every day and I enter the name of the Washington-Wilkes shelter. Every little bit helps.

My shelter in Tampa has a feral cat neuter program which they do only on Mondays. If you trap feral cats they will check them out, give them their shots and neuter them for no more that $25 (sometimes even less when they get a grant). They clip the tip off the left ear so that if Animal Control picks them up, they will know they are neutered cats that are being taken care of. Veterinarians from the area volunteer a day every so often to do this.

I wish I could see something like this in your area. I have trapped 14 ferals and continue to feed eight twice a day. My neighborhood has quieted and there are fewer cats roaming around. Mine pretty much stay in the yard.

I stopped by the Humane Society yesterday morning to ask them something and they told me they were neutering well over 100 cats yesterday alone. All ferals in traps.

They also do low cost neutering of cats and dogs on Friday and Saturday. All with volunteer personnel.
