Claude Earl Johnson
Funeral services for Claude Earl Johnson, 89, of Tignall, formerly of Haywood County, N.C., were held Tuesday, March 2, 2010, in the Waynesville, N.C., chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Rev. Roy D. Cates officiating. Burial was at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. He died Friday, February 26, at Heritage Health Care of Wilkes, Washington.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Avery County, N.C., and was the son of the late Alfred P. and Jeanette Early Johnson. He was the widower of Gertrude Brackett Johnson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he saw action in the Pacific Theater. He was co-owner of Johnson and Johnson Sawmill, owned and operated Johnson Grocery in Cruso, N.C., and was retired maintenance supervisor with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Wood; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Jewell Morgan of Tignall.
