Martin and Janet Burgess were in Athens Sunday afternoon to celebrate Mrs. Burgess’s birthday at a luncheon hosted by Brent and Mandy Marable, Jack Durham and John David, of Watkinsville and Molly Burgess of Athens at the Marable home.

Angela Abadie of Wilmington, N.C., enjoyed a weekend visit in Washington with her parents, Mark and Emilie Waters.

Cliff and Lynda Hopkins of Hilton Head, S.C., visited during the weekend with his mother, Norma Johnson Hopkins. On Sunday they went to Athens to attend the memorial service for Mrs. Hopkins’s sister, Bill Johnson Cooper, at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home. Among other family members attending with Washington connections and from Washington were Mrs. Cooper’s nieces and nephews, Dennis and Fran Hopkins of Acworth, Kirk and Joy Goodrick of Canton, Gene and Candy Hopkins, Billy Hopkins and Edward and Susan Pope of Washington and their daughter, Katherine Gentry of Athens; cousins, Steve and Eleanor Blackmon of Washington. Also attending from Washington were Hollis and Patsy Winn and W.C. and Cheryl Bentley.
