Kathryn Bussey and Reid Filipiak enjoy parties in Columbus area
Engaged couple Kathryn Bussey of Warm Springs and Reid Filipiak of Washington were entertained with a round of parties last weekend in the Columbus area.The couple plans to marry on March 20 at Oakhurst Farm in West Point.
Richard and Peggy Andrew of Cataula hosted a reception for the couple at the historic 1839 Greek Revival-style Wynn House in Columbus on Friday evening, February 26. Columbus friends and relatives of the Andrews, Bussey and Filipiak families were included on the guest list and everyone enjoyed the evening making connections. Lovely flowers and delicious appetizers added to the charm of the evening at the newly renovated Wynn House. Roch and Elaine Filipiak of Washington, the prospective bridegroom’s parents, were among the guests attending.
Saturday morning Pat Krause of Phenix City, Ala., hosted a brunch for Miss Bussey and Mr. Filipiak in order to present her gift of an engraved heirloom family Bible to the engaged couple.
In the afternoon Miss Bussey was honored with an “Around the House” shower given by two of her bridesmaids, Michelle Brown and Emily Hardin, along with their mothers, Helen Fullard and Phyllis Hardin, at the Hardin home in Birmingham, Ala. Miss Bussey moved with her family to Birmingham in l987 and lived there until she left for college in 2002.
The tea party theme that featured colors of pink and green was complete with teapot-shaped name tags, afternoon tea treats and tea bags. Guests enjoyed reminiscing with the bride-elect and left with teacup favors filled with treats and tied with tulle.
Many of the bride-elect’s former neighbors and school friends attended. Other out-of-town guests included the bride-elect’s mother, Beth Bussey of Columbus, and grandmother, Beverly Fite of Decatur, Ala.; the prospective bridegroom’s mother, Elaine Filipiak of Washington; the bride-elect’s sister and matron of honor, Elizabeth Newton of Lexington, Ky., and two of her attendants, Emily Lovretta of Atlanta and Allison Ray of Nashville, Tenn.
On Sunday afternoon seven ladies from Chattahoochee Valley Church of Christ in Columbus, where Miss Bussey’s parents, Andy and Beth Bussey, are members, hosted a bridal tea for the bride-elect in the home of Dr. Lana Atchley. Hostesses with Dr. Atchley were Dana Womble, Lynn Smith, Heather Jiles, Sarah Hubbuch, Diona Owens, and Dawn Krueger, all of Columbus.
A delicious cake with layers of different flavors added to the enjoyment of the afternoon as the brideelect received many gifts from her registries along with tips for a happy marriage.
Everyone enjoyed meeting the bride-elect’s prospective mother-inlaw, Elaine Filipiak, who attended from Washington.
