W-W Garden Club and Iris Garden Club members attend luncheon in Thomson

The Washington-Wilkes Garden Club and Iris Garden Club were represented at the 53rd Camellia Day Luncheon held Wednesday, March 3, at the Thomson Presbyterian Church in Thomson.

Attending from the Washington- Wilkes Club were Mabel Johnson and her daughter and guest, Emilie Waters; Celeste Adams, Mary Webster, Carol Daniel, Elizabeth Smith and Mary Broadnax. The Iris Garden Club was presented by Anna Gunter, Catherine Hessert, Marcia Paxton, Patsy Winn and Norma Hopkins.

In keeping with tradition, the luncheon tables were beautifully decorated for the affair.

Lucretia Ferguson, president of the McDuffie County Garden Council, welcomed everyone and Jackie Dupree, Council secretary, offered the invocation.

Following the luncheon of hot chicken salad with rice, sweet carrots, green salad, rolls and strawberry cake, Bunnie Walden, Council vice-president, introduced Mayor Kenneth Usry who extended the proclamation.

Wesley Cadle of Design Solutions of Augusta, introduced by Council member, Karen Meeks, presented a most interesting program on floral arranging. His slides and his handson demonstration of flower arranging offered many helpful tips and information.

At the close of the program, the Merry Tillers Garden Club awarded door prizes given by Dudley and McCorkle Nurseries. Recipients of the beautiful camellia bushes included Mary Webster from the Washington-Wilkes Club and Catherine Hessert from the Iris Club.
