Testing the ground for contamination

Workers from the environmental testing contractor Verco of West Columbia, S.C., drill a 30-foot sampling well in the parking lot of the News- Reporter, part of the NAPA block Phase II Environmental Testing, on East Robert Toombs Avenue. Main Street Manager David Jenkins said that crews dug numerous test wells to locate any ground contamination from the old NAPA Auto Parts store and other businesses that had been on the block in the past. Once tested and cleared, the property owners will be able to sell or develop the property, he said.
