Jessica Graves entertained March 13 at ABC Shower
Jessica Graves of Fairfield, Tex., bride-elect of Joyner Wells, was guest of honor at an ABC Shower on Saturday afternoon, March 13, at Hummingbird Hill, home of Pug and Kay Nelms on Bryans Drive.
Co-hostesses with Mrs. Nelms were Melanie Wells, Rosemary Hopkins, Judy Coxwell, Laura Purdy, Patsy Winn, Angela McGill and Susan Pope.
Miss Graves wore a hot pink top over grey slacks and was presented a corsage of white Alstroemeria lilies.
The front door of the home was highlighted with a grapevine wreath centered with a beautiful bride and bridal veil, the headpiece of which was worn by Mrs. Nelms at her wedding.
Guests were greeted by the hostesses and invited to sign both the guest book and a keepsake plate that was later presented to Miss Graves as a hostess gift. Also decorating this table was a framed shower invitation.
After guests greeted the brideelect in the great room, they were invited into the dining room for delicious refreshments that included chocolate layer cake, fresh coconut cake, lemon cheese cake, cheese straws, toasted pecans and fresh strawberries with fruit dip. Mock champagne punch was served from the Arthur Court bowl at one end of the table. A white cloth overlaid the table which featured a raised center platform also draped in white that held a cut crystal vase of tall white gladioli, plumosus fern and gypsophila. Scattered among the draping cloth and around the base were silver wedding bands and sparkling letters of the alphabet.
Guests presented the bride-elect gifts for her home that matched the letter of the alphabet guests had received in their invitation. These gifts were displayed in an area that also featured a painting by Mrs. Nelms that replicated the alphabet bouquet on the invitation.
Sixty-six guests were invited. Among the special guests attending were the bride-elect’s mother, Paulette Graves, and grandmother, Dorothy Ward of Fairfield; the prospective bridegroom’s mother, Vonice Wells, sister and nephew, Jillian Andrews and Athen of Washington, grandmother, Margaret Johnson and aunt, Jane Smiley, both of Ludowici.
