Young artist mimics Matisse

The Washington-Wilkes Primary School PTG held Family Art Night on March 9 at which the “Make Art Like an Artist” family event, coordinated by Fine Arts teacher Melanie Stokes, was a huge success and fun for all. The participants learned about the styles of famous artists and produced artworks of similar style. The young artists enjoyed creating dot designs like Seurat, the pointillist, and using oil pastels to mimic the swirly lines of Van Gogh’s style. Pictured above is kindergartener Trey Johnston from Melanie McMichael’s class who is working on a collage, modeled after Matisse. Trey is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Lester Johnston.
