Put forth the effort for the life you want

TO THE EDITOR: And to the young people of Washington-Wilkes and Tignall:

You can do anything that you set your mind to if you would just stop being lazy, and apply yourselves. Stop giving up so easily, and go out in the world and go get it, because it’s not going to come to you.

I used to be a drug addict once upon a time, and homeless, too. Now, I’m on major television shows, and I’m about to start filming my very first real movie where I’m to co-star. If I can do it, then so can you.

Stop using excuses as a crutch. In other words, if you’re not putting in any kind of effort to better yourself, or to get yourself out of the so-called hood, then stop complaining. It all depends on you, and how bad you want it. The very same effort that you put into hustling and selling drugs, that’s the same exact effort you need to better yourself – not only for yourself, but for your kids. Lead by example for your kids and our youth. Stop being followers and start being leaders.

Put that weed down, stop being lazy, and go out and get that life that you always wanted. It’s not too late at all. I’ve been chasing my dreams for over 20 years, and now I’m living it. If I can do it, then so can you. Michael Jordan once said that the only person that can stop Michael Jordan is Michael Jordan, and Will Smith always said that we, if we choose to, can do anything that we set our minds to.

Fredrick Douglas once said: “Without any type of struggle, there is no progress.” In other words, in order to go forward, you have to put in the effort, just to show what happens when you put God first. I’m hanging out sometimes with Beyonce, Adam Rodriquez of “CSI” Miami and “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” Mark of “Ugly Betty,” Anthony Anderson and Jeremy Sisto of “Law and Order,” and Dann Floreck of “Law and Order, SVU,” the captain on the show.

Kids, stay in school and get that diploma. Then go off to college and get that associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree. Because in the future you’re going to need either a bachelor’s, master’s, or better to get that job, and if you’ve dropped out of high school, or middle school, you really should go back.

Those streets are nothing but trouble, and no good, or no growth can come from hanging out on that corner. I know because I used to be on that corner as well, back in that day. If I can do it, so can you.

Like I said earlier in this article, if I can do it, so can some of you. The same effort you put into selling drugs, use that same effort to get your diploma and college degree. See! Because a lot of our youth get caught up by hanging out with that wrong crowd, person, or by simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time and before you know it, you’re going to be in your 40s and haven’t accomplished a thing. Go and get that education, college degree, and continue to go forward, and have a life.

Stop worrying about what the next person worked hard to have, and you put in the same effort, and you have something too. I’m doing it. So can you young people. Put, and keep, God first and all is possible.

Ask not, receive not.
