Qualifying closes for two seats on Wilkes Board of Education

Qualifying closed Friday for two seats on the Wilkes County Board of Education that will be on the non-partisan ballot in November’s General Election.

The District 1 Board of Education seat, held by Kay Finnell, and the District 2 seat, held by Bob Guin, are up for election this year. Dann Standard had qualified for the District 2 seat.

Supervisor of Elections Probate Judge Thomas Charping said that he expected one or two candidates to qualify for the District 1 seat held by Finnell.

In addition, Joseph Riley has qualified to run for Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor.

The qualifying period for the non-partisan election began Monday, June 28 and ran through noon Friday, July 2.
