Mysteries, legends to be topic of Aug. 1 foundation meeting

DON RHODES DON RHODES Author and publications editor Don Rhodes will present a program on his book, Mysteries and Legends of Georgia, Sunday afternoon, August 1, at the Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation meeting at the Robert Toombs House from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m.

Rhodes is publications editor of Morris Communications Co., and publications manager of The Augusta Futurity and the National Barrel Horse Association.

For many years, Rhodes was the head political writer for the Augusta Herald and The Augusta Chronicle, and, for six years, he was entertainment editor of The Augusta Chronicle responsible for creating the Applause entertainment section.

He was twice named “Media Person of the Year” by the Greater Augusta Arts Council. He also is credited with inspiring the annual Blind Willie McTell Blues Festival in Thomson.

Many country music fans know him for his weekly “Ramblin’ Rhodes” column, which, according to Nashville entertainment expert Robert Oermann, is the longestrunning column on country music in America

He is the author of five books, his latest being Mysteries & Legends of Georgia. He also has served on the board of directors of the Augusta Museum of History and the North Augusta (S.C.) Arts and Heritage Center.
