Recently I heard there was an igloo resort in Alaska that I think we would gladly go for vacations after this hot weather. The only thing wrong about that is they are closed in April when they melt away. It is built back again in December. This resort even has a hot tub. The rooms are kept at a cozy 22 to 28 degrees. The beds are made from blocks of ice covered with fur, hides, and sleeping bags. One might become a human popsicle staying in this resort. Some people will try anything just to be different. After my last week’s paragraph about no one camping in tents now, I knew someone would come back and say they camped in a tent last week. Sure enough, Elaine Bunch Presnell from Carrollton called me to tell me that they camped in a tent at North Shores at Lake Oconee around the fourth of July. One thing about this is that they camped the week of the cooler weather. Elaine is the daughter of Ellen Bunch and was here visiting when she called. Camping with Elaine was her daughter, Angie Williams, and her sons, Drew, Tyler, Jeret, and camping in a big camper were her sister, Joan Oglesby and her husband, John Oglesby, and John’s daughter, Charlene, and husband Steve Patterson, and their sons, Jacob, Adam, and John Alex of Rockmart. There was a parade on the Fourth of July at the North Shores Camp site with decorated golf carts. John Oglesbsy’s decorated golf cart won first place. Congratulations, John. John and Joan always have a much decorated golf cart in the Tignall Christmas parade each year. They all enjoyed swimming, plaiyng putt putt, boat riding, tubing, fishing, volleyball, and going to a dance. These families had a wonderful time together. Elaine and her family were joined at Ellen Bunch’s for the weekend by Elaine’s husband, Ronald Presnell. ƒCristy and Gracen Ware were in McDonald's when one of the teenagers who works there came to Gracen and said, "Your picture is on the advertisement for our school picture packet from Gambrell Photography." Gracen is very photogenic so I can see why her picture would be chosen for this advertisement. Gracen celebrated her 19th birthday Saturday. Happy birthday, Gracen. She is also getting ready to go off to college in a few weeks at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. ƒSpeaking of being photogenic, I wonder why no one ever had a smile in those ancient sepia photographs of our ancestors. They were all so solemn. Do you think maybe they were missing some teeth? The first thing a photographer has you do now is smile. Now, all the children have those "cheese" smiles for all their pictures. ƒScott and Kathy Ware and Stacey spent 10 days vacationing in Myrtle Beach, S.C. These ladies were all members of the Red Oak Grove Baptist Church WMU of Modoc, S.C. ƒWe welcome two new residents at Tignall Assisted Living: Kenneth Mann of Washington and Mrs. Marion Paul from Forest Park. There is one new resident at Denard's Personal Care from Habersham County. It is great that these two beautiful old homes, the home of the late Dr. and Mrs. Ragsdale and Miss May Harwell, and the home of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Bolton, are being used and seeing the residents enjoying those large porches. ƒMarc and Heather Hammond, Brock and Camden, have enjoyed camping Fourth of July weekend on the Hiawassee River. ƒLayton and Gloria Harris visited Bill and Dot McCord Friday night in Thomson. ƒSpending a few days with Wilbur and Ouida Maney were Ruth Strickland of Jonesboro and Bill Maney of Columbus, Ohio. They came to help Wilbur and Ouida put up corn. How wonderful to have children come all that distance to help their parents with the hardest work of all -- putting up corn. ƒAlex and Kay Tyler met Greg and Gena Tyler, Jordan, Caleb and Sydney, in Athens for supper Saturday night. ƒRalph and Mary Will Denard spent a week over the Fourth of July holiday camping at Yonah Mountain. They spent Monday and Tuesday of this week in Gatlinburg, Tenn., at a first cousins reunion. ƒEdna Lamar attended the class reunion of Washington High School classes of 1954, 1955, and 1956, in Athens at the Georgia Club on Friday, July 9. She and Charlie Davidson were the only teachers left to attend. Edna went with John (Bucky) Green of Anderson, S.C., and returned home with Sam and Flora Ann McGill. ƒ Visiting over the Fourth of July holiday with Hugh and Nobie Keener were Vince Keener of Snellville, Jamie Troxel of Wilmington, N.C., and Pete and Carrie Meyers from Lexington S.C. Last weekend, Chris and Angie, Madison and Nolan of Loganville were their guests. ƒGuests over the weekend of O'Neal and Celeste Adams were Kimberly, Chase, and Connor Coots of Ranger and Amanda and Abby Range of Bethlehem. When Kimberly and her sons started to come down for their visit they had a storm and a bird nest was destroyed with only a little baby bird left without a home. The boys brought the little bird with them and were feeding it several times a day. It was a little mockingbird so they decided to look for other mockingbirds. They found one with a nest and only one egg. They placed the little bird inside the nest and then kept watch to see what happened. A mother bird came and she started taking care of the baby bird. She would sit on her egg and feed the little baby bird. Now that little bird has been adopted. I loved this story and had to share. ƒMembers of the Tignall Baptist Church and Mallorysville Baptist Church enjoyed getting together Sunday, July 4, at Tignall Baptist with a wonderful patriotic service with their combined choirs. There was a delicious covered dish meal served after the service. ƒLet's remember the following people in our prayers this week: Reese Smith, Becky Stover, Becky Thomasson, Marilyn Newsome, Jack Newsome, Charles Blakey, Charles Pullen, Lois Sale, Judy Thornton, Shirley Roberson, Tim Echols, Patsy Epps, Tommy Garrett, Judy Wright, Marvin Weaver, Scott Williamson, Randy Butts, Alice Thornton, Ricky Dawson, Graham Eason, Frances Vinson, Phoebe Davis, Vivian Wolozin, Kathryn Anderson, Irene Echols, Tom Wiggins, and Christine Burton. ƒI saw a perfect cell phone for seniors.
