Catherine Louise Hessert

A memorial service for Catherine Louise Hessert, 78, of Washington, will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator at 11 a.m. She died June 29, in Raphine, Virginia, while returning from a family reunion in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Miss Hessert was born in South Williamsport, Penn., and was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Baker Hessert and William Hessert. Following graduation from South Williamsport High School in 1950, she attended business college and began her career as a bookkeeper. After retiring, she moved to Washington Wilkes in 1994. She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator where she served in the Altar Guild, sang in the choir, was coordinator for Stephen’s House, and was a member of the Mediator Chapter of the Daughters of the King. She was a member of the Iris Garden Club, serving on the Garden Therapy Committee, and was chairman of the telephone committee. She was a member of the Homer Legg Chapter 535 Order of the Eastern Star, the Friends of the Mary Willis Library, and a member of the Washington Little Theater Co.

Survivors include a sister, Barbara Hessert Perna of West Windsor, New Jersey; a cousin, Anna Hessert Gunter, and her family of Washington Wilkes; and nephews, a niece, and cousins in Pennsylvania.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Mediator or to the Washington- Wilkes Animal Shelter.
