Rev. Jerry Holcomb to speak at Fishing Creek homecoming
Fishing Creek Baptist Church will have homecoming on Sunday, July 25, followed by revival services Monday evenings, July 26, through Friday evening, July 30, at 8 p.m.
The homecoming service will be at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Holcomb, former pastor, as the guest speaker. Special music will be presented by Sylvia Walker of Wilkes County.
Dr. Ben Glosson, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, Hazelhurst, will be guest evangelist for the revival services.
Rev. Holcomb was ordained to the ministry on October 21, 1962, and was pastor at Fishing Creek from July 1962, until August, 1963. He served the church while he was a student at the University of Georgia. While serving as pastor, he expanded the number of worship services from two per month to four per month, and proposed a formal budget which was a first for the church. He initiated a building program for extensive renovation of the present facilities.
Rev. Holcomb graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in Sociology and was a graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received a Master of Divinity. He also served on several State of Virginia Baptist boards and was a trustee and executive member of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He was pastor of King’s Grant Baptist Church in Virginia until his retirement in 2007.
