When the cat’s away, the mice will play. I know everyone has heard this. That’s what happened when a family was away vacationing for about a week. Their dogs invited all the dogs in the neighborhood over to use the doggy door to get into their basement where it was cooler than outside. When we went to their house to feed their dogs, all kinds of dogs came out of the doggy door. Now tell me that wasn’t a dog reunion. ƒDid you hear about the letter that was lost and was not delivered until 73 years later? Isn't it funny that letters can get lost, but bills never are. I guess the letter was found because there are very few letters written these days. Here I go again . . . communication, like manners, has gone out the window. ƒ Visiting with Louie and Vivian Wolozin one day last week were Gary Ware of Wadley, Johnny Ware of Athens, and Norris Ware. These brothers once lived near us when I was a child and lived in the country. Johnny came over with his dad once and wouldn't get out of the car, so Kay and I dragged him out of the car to make him play with us. We lived so far in the sticks and were always trying to find playmates. ƒGuests of Alex and Kay Tyler for the weekend were their grandson, Caleb Tyler, and his friend, Ben Talley, of Hoschton. ƒKaren and Price Rogers of Evans visited Thursday night with the Donald Ware family. ƒMargaret Simmons of Baldwin spent several days with Mary Ann Williams. ƒLayton and Gloria Harris stopped on their way home Monday of last week and visited Thomas and Dot Chambers in Dahlonega. ƒGuests for several days last week of Wilbur and Ouida Maney were Deborah Smith, Jelani and Morris of Covington. ƒLeon and Linda Aycock visited Friday afternoon and had supper with Julian and Emadean Holcombe in Union Point. They visited with Leon's brother Danny in Lincolnton Saturday afternoon. ƒAmanda and Abby Range of Bethlehem spent the weekend with O'Neal and Celeste Adams. Amanda and Abby enjoyed swimming in the pool and Amanda went horseback riding with Beverly Johnson Saturday. ƒWeekend guests of Dave and Tody Derrick were Laura and Kathryn Ashe of Rock Hill, N.C., and Sara Bruschia of Tiera Vista, Arizona. ƒToni and Marion Hammond and Mary Hammond attended homecoming at Mary's church in Modoc, S.C., Red Oak Grove Baptist Church. Tony enjoyed getting together with some of his old classmates at the homecoming. ƒDaisy Parker joined her brother and sisters, Sadie Simmons and Robert and Debbie Goble of Kings Mountain, N.C.; Clyde and Sandy Whittington, Margie Rogers, Inez Moore, and Esther Dawson for a day together Friday in Helen.
ƒPam Pullen and Jeremy Pullen of Elberton attended the Echols family reunion Saturday at the home of Kenny Bennett in Conyers. This was the family of the late Lois Echols Standard, the late Elizabeth Echols Bennett, the late Ralph Echols Jr., and the only one living, Jane Echols Davis. Pam's brother and his family, Rick and Laura Standard, and their grandchildren, Sam and Kate, were also at the reunion. ƒA youth group from Vero Beach, Fla., (10 boys and three adults) spent a few days this week at Beulah Baptist Church. They were here to do mission work. ƒBeulah Baptist Church will have revival services August 15-18, 7 p.m., with a different speaker each night. Everyone is welcome. ƒTignall Baptist youth camping trip last weekend at Big Hart was enjoyed by 28 people. Joe Rogers celebrated his 16th birthday Saturday while they were camping. A large group serenaded Joe by singing "Happy Birthday" at his tent early Saturday morning. I know he appreciated that. ƒThose we need to keep in our prayers are Shirley Roberson, Tim Echols, Ronnie Rhodes, Patsy Epps, Tommy Garrett, Marvin Weaver, Charles Pullen, Charles Blakey, Pam Fain who is recovering from surgery, Tina VanHart, Billie Ann Smith, Randy Butts, Scott Williamson, Judy Wright, Frances Vinson, Kathryn Anderson, Phoebe Davis, Vivian Wolozin, Irene Echols, Christine Burton, Judy Thornton, Jack and Marilyn Newsome, Troy Land, and Lois Sale who will be having surgery at the end of this week. ƒ"Why do they call it rush hour when nothing moves?"
