W-WPS is expecting academic excellence
Washington-Wilkes Primary School is gearing up for the 2010-11 school year, with teachers returning to work on Tuesday, August 3. The staff will welcome the smiling faces of its kindergarten through third grade students on Friday, August 6. The school will host its annual classroom visitation on August 5. Parents and students are invited to drop by to visit their classrooms and meet their new teachers between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. The annual PTG Open House will be held on August 10 at 6:30 p.m.. During the Open House, parents will receive detailed information about the plans and expectations for the 2010-11 school year.
W-WPS has a reputation throughout the state for its outstanding academic accomplishments and, once again, has been honored for its academic achievements during the 2009-10 school year.
“Being recognized as a Georgia Title I Distinguished School for making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for 12 consecutive years is, certainly, a great honor,” principal Florence Sandifer said, “but even more impressive is the margin by which our students surpass the expected state goals. W-WPS has an extraordinary faculty who willingly work beyond expected levels to meet the needs of our students. Despite furloughs and economic hardship, the staff continues to work at peak levels, doing whatever it takes to give our students the best possible education. We are so appreciative of the efforts our students make daily and for the parental and community support we have in Wilkes County. Achieving ‘Excellence Without Exception,’ the mission of Wilkes County Schools, is not something we work toward at W-WPS. It is simply what we do.”
