RAYLE NEWS
Sardis Baptist Church had a good service Sunday morning with Rev. Jim Newsome bringing an inspiring message. The music was led by Joyce Fry with Pam Hall as pianist. The children were given a message at the altar and after this Rebekah Echols held children’s church in the annex. We had another good service Sunday evening as Pastor Newsome continued leading the study of I Corinthians. Prayer meeting was held at the Echols Home Wednesday evening. ƒ As our revival at Sardis Baptist Church continued Monday and Tuesday evenings of last week, Rev. Steve Rayner, pastor of Rehoboth Baptist Church brought more powerful messages. Mrs. Rayner accompanied him to the services and his children also came for a service. Jo Randall was pianist for the Sunday and Monday services. Her husband, Buzzy Randall, attended with her. Tuesday evening, Sherri Bowers of Danburg came to play the piano and her mother, Nelle Bowers, attended with her. We were glad to have them and all the visitors. Monday evening Joyce Fry sang a special, “His Eye Is on the Sparrow.” Tuesday evening, Joyce Fry and Karan Newsome sang “He Touched Me.” Tiffany Lamar sang a beautiful solo special and Rev. Rayner sang “I Choose.” It was a wonderful revival with inspiring messages and congregational singing of beautiful hymns. At the end of the last service, Rev. Rayner asked our pastor and his wife to come stand at the front and for everyone to come and tell them we love you and support you and if we can help in any way let us know. It was very touching as every single person filed down the aisles and after hugging Jim and Karan they would hug anyone else close by. What a great revival time it was. Everyone enjoyed having Rev. Rayner preach our revival and Jo Randall as the pianist for the first three services and Sherri Bowers as pianist for the Tuesday evening service. ƒI do want to mention that as Rev. Rayner was at our church giving the Sunday morning revival message, his father, Rev. Stephen Rayner, retired minister, who preached at Phillips Mill for many years, was at Rehoboth filling in for him. ƒSympathy is extended to the families of Betty Jean Guin, George Garrard, Sara Frances Rhodes Henderson, Marion Jackson Newsome, Hulinda Gunby Baggett, and Annette Pittman Nash. Bill Ridder, bringing the special message. Betty Berry, pianist for Rock, played as the congregation sang some beautiful hymns. Two young ladies sang “It Is Well With My Soul,” and were accompanied at the piano by another young lady and I did not get their names, but did learn that they were the granddaughters of a retired missionary who was the sister of the late Mrs. Floy Berry. They were from Oregon. There was another young lady with two children who were from Hawaii and was visiting the Williamson family. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal in the fellowship hall. A large crowd attended. Many former members and friends came back home for this special day. It was good to see Charles Blakey of Denard’s Personal Care Home in Tignall, who was there with his daughter Amelia and Herman Wheatley and Sarah Wheatley of Metasville. ƒDavid and James Randall attended the homecoming at Rock Church Sunday. ƒJ.W. and Bonnie Boatwright attended homecoming at Rock United Methodist Church Sunday. It was good to see many friends whom we haven’t seen in a long time. We always love going to Rock whenever we can as it was the church of J.W.’s daddy, the late Hoke Boatwright, and his memory lives on at Rock. ƒCongratulations to Will and Samantha Callaway on the birth of Emma Joy on August 10 in Athens. ƒCongratulations to Jim and Karan Newsome on the birth of a granddaughter, Kyra Johanna Jenelle Newsome, born at the University Hospital in Augusta to Jamie and Charlene Newsome of Martinez. ƒBrooke Porter and Kaidyn joined Bonnie Boatwright at the Huddle House for lunch Friday. ƒJ.W. and Bonnie Boatwright joined James and Sharon Smith of Stephens for supper at Padgett’s Country Kitchen Friday night. ƒCharlotte Jackson of Big Canoe and Fran Thaxton enjoyed lunch together Thursday at Longhorns. ƒScott and Sissy Smith, Abby and J.T., Richard and Lou Heard, Mattie and Hank, spent Sunday with Buck and Linda Echols. ƒTommy and Fran Thaxton went to see “The Dixie Swim Club” Friday night at the Bolton Lunceford Playhouse in Washington. ƒBilly and Doris Walker drove to Atlanta browsing around and stopped back in Lawrenceville to visit John and Becky Orr, Walker and Isabella. ƒSonny and Linda Bryan joined Tommy and Fran Thaxton to attend Fran and Sonny’s class reunion of the Washington Wilkes High School Class of 1960 Saturday evening at the Woman’s Club in Washington. ƒ Buck and Linda Echols attended Buck’s class reunion of the Class of 1960 Saturday evening. ƒDoris Walker and Joyce Chamberlain traveled over to Greensboro, back through Watkinsville, and on to Athens Wednesday, stopping at places of interest along the way. ƒTommy and Fran Thaxton ate Sunday lunch at Williams Barbecue in Danielsville and afterwards visited Marion Mansfield at the home of his daughter, Sandra and Tom Lapczynski.
