Last week, some of you may have seen the man walking down the highway carrying a cross. I saw him Tuesday of last week on the by-pass carrying the cross over one shoulder and the bottom of the cross was on two wheels. I understand he was walking from Augusta to Gainesville. He said he was doing this to make people think and boy did it make one think. Pauline Bell was carrying her little grandson, Jonathan Conard, to preschool when they saw him. She asked him to tell his preschool teacher what they saw on the way to school. He said, “We saw a man carrying a stop sign.” ƒI did some teaching two days last week. Last Tuesday I taught the second grade lab. I enjoyed it so much, I thought I should be back in the classroom. The next day I taught third grade lab and realized why I retired. One day a week is enough. I don't have enough energy to teach five days a week, but I learned a lot in two days. I always learn so much from the children. I learned that grandparents are getting younger and younger for children to be so amazed at me. Some children were so interested in my big toe that doesn't have a nail and my veins that stick out on my hands. I felt like an object for "Show and Tell." ƒBecky Thomasson, Carol Daniel, Connie Danner, and Elizabeth Smith took Gloria Ware out for her birthday to the Potted Geranium Tea Parlor in Greensboro on Wednesday of last week. ƒCarolyn Gammon, Kay Tyler, and Pat Mack took Betty Reese out for lunch in Washington last Thursday to celebrate her birthday. These cousins enjoyed being together. ƒSpeaking of birthdays, the Lois who celebrated her 86th birthday last week was Lois Sale. Her last name was accidentally left off in last week's article. ƒScott and Kathy Ware and Stacey visited Scott's grandmother, Lucy Howell in Hartwell, Saturday. They ate supper with Scott's brother, Bobby Howell, and his family. ƒMr. and Mrs. Warren Kendrick of North Augusta visited with Mr. and Mrs. Graydon Bobo and Joanne Danner Friday. ƒVisiting Bill Savage from Monday through Wednesday of last week was his sister and her husband, John and Kay Hanor from Red Hook, New York. It had been five years since Bill had seen them. The couple was on their way to Mobile, Ala., to visit with their last living aunt. ƒVisiting Louie and Vivian Wolozin Sunday were Dale and Kathy Robertson of Winder and Michelle and Charlie McAvoy, and Tim and Morgan Echols. ƒDaisy Parker and Esther Dawson attended the Sanders family reunion in Forsyth Sunday. This was the family of the late Gene Parker. ƒ Independence United Methodist Church had its fifth Sunday dinner after the morning service. Attending with Leon and Linda Aycock Sunday were David and Sandra Westbrook. ƒThere was a deacon ordination service at Beulah Baptist Church for Johnny Burns Sunday morning. A covered dish meal was enjoyed after the service in their Family Life Center. ƒTignall Assisted Living has a new resident, Larry Hawes, who is the assistant pastor of Pole Branch Missionary Baptist Church. ƒThere will be a wedding shower at Tignall Baptist Church in the Dale Fincher Christian Life Center for Wendy Truitt on Saturday, September 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. Wendy is the daughter of Johnny and Brenda Truitt. ƒLet's keep the following people in our prayers this week: Linda Hopkins, Melisa Clark (who was in a car accident last week), Evelyn Bennett, Becky Thomasson, Tina VanHart, Charles Blakey, Charles Pullen, Christine Burton, Irene Echols, Kathryn Anderson, Peggy Ware, Frances Vinson, Destini Long, Shirley Roberson, Patsy Epps, Judy Wright, Marvin Weaver, Scott Williamson, Randy Butts, Ricky Dawson, Alex Price, Margaret Fortson, Tommy Garrett, Vivian Wolozin, Phoebe Davis, Judy Thornton, Cecil Rhodes, Juanita Parker, Rev.
