Funeral services for Rachel Callaway Johnson, 92, of Washington, were held Friday, August 27, 2008, at Hopkins Funeral Home, Washington, with Rev. Robert Rayner and Rev. Jamie Callaway officiating. She died Tuesday, August 24, in Wills Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Callaway was a native of Wilkes County and the daughter of the late Robert Thomas and Nellie Carlton Callaway. She was the widow of M.L. Johnson. She had worked as a presser at Royal Manufacturing Company, Washington, and was a member of the Phillips Mill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Susan Johnson of Washington, and William and Lindia Johnson of Washington; five sisters, Lila Mae Swanson, Marietta, Mary Pittman, Union Point, Ellie Jones, Lincolnton, Evelyn Bridges, Sandy Cross, and Ella Nell Mines, Union Point; a brother, Otis Callaway of Washington; six grandchildren, Teresa Shirley, Christy Nelson, Melba Radford, Tami Chalker, Russ Johnson, and Charlie Johnson; and nine greatgrandchildren.

Pallbearers included Jonathan Radford, Kyle Nelson, Eric Greene, Russ Johnson, Charlie Johnson, and Greg Chalker.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
