Wonderful gesture, Christian example demonstrated by Bible Bowl winners

By Rev. Ed Anderson

The traditional Saturday afternoon Bible Bowl component of The Wilkes County Sunday School Union featured the addition of a new team – Reeves Chapel Baptist Church. Coached by Nicole Norman and lead by Amaya Wilkerson and Trey Daniels, they competed energetically with the reigning champion Springfield Baptist Church team.

At the end of the day, Springfield had answered the greatest number of questions from last quarter’s Sunday School lessons. Accordingly, they were entitled to the first place trophy. However, the congregation was overwhelmingly pleased when Springfield coach John Jackson and his team of young Bible scholars engaged in a loving and random act of kindness, generosity, and love by insisting that the trophy be awarded to the young Reeves Chapel team as an expression of encouragement and appreciation for their hard work in this, their first Bible Bowl competition as a team.

What a wonderful gesture and Christian example demonstrated by Coach Jackson and his team which consisted of Taniyah Barnes, Dyonisius Gartrell, Tavain Binns, and Christy Lewis. May Heaven smile upon them.

At the conclusion of the competition, yet another team stepped up and indicated a desire to join Reeves Chapel in participating in the upcoming October 30 Bible Bowl.

Also of note was the fact that at least one parent has volunteered to coach several eager young sevenand eight-year-olds in a Junior Bible Bowl. Other churches with sevenand eight-year-olds who wish to compete in an abbreviated friendly competition should look forward to receiving new age-appropriate Bible Bowl study questions in the regular mail-out which will arrive at your Sunday School Superintendent’s address about a month before our October Sunday School Union.

Our Sunday School youngsters are excited about learning the “Word of God” and demonstrating their high level of knowledge during Bible Bowl. Each Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and parent should “seize these precious moments” and help our youngsters really get involved and move to a higher level of Christian discipleship. To God be the Glory.
