Is what they want worth having?
TO THE EDITOR:
We talked this week with a man who has lived here all his 60 years.
He’s thinking of moving to Florida. He said, “I know I should stay and fight for this town I still love, but I don’t think I have it in me.”
This is not the same town it was when we moved here. When we came, people were excited about the town – real estate was selling, new businesses were opening, there was a feeling of pride here. People like John Horton put a ton of money into this area – but instead of getting cooperation, he got nothing but resentment. Instead of improving what we already have, the powers that be insist on building a hotel nobody wants.
What happens when people can no longer afford to live here and their property doesn’t sell so they just leave? And we all know that has already happened, don’t we?
There is a saying: “To the victor goes the spoils.” The powers that be may get what they think they want – but will it still be worth having?
